I frequently restore my computers back to factory spec using the factory DVD. The advantage is that I get all the pre-installed applications. Then I uninstall the apps I don't want, which usually begins with Quicken on every machine. Then I must of course reinstall the apps I have installed since I first got the computer. Once I have the computer the way I want I used a floppy that I made from my Ghost 2001 [I think]. It clones whatever partition I choose to wherever I want it. I clone the C: drive. There's no compression so I use Partition Magic to make the target partition just a tad larger than C: My data files are on other partitions. So if I do a format rescue the data is not affected. Now with the clone of C I can clone it back if things should go wrong. I reclone C after installing applications so that the cline is current. I now don't have to use my rescue disks. > One feature I miss about the Dell setup was; if I wanted to reformat, It is much nicer when you have options. My strategy above seems to work very well for me. And I can keep C the right size, not too big, not to small. Once I am set up I don't install many new programs. But if I need more space, there's Partition Magic. Great program. > It prompted me for the key, name, password, etc. I don't worry about passwords except where I am force to use them. I couldn't get anyone else in my family on my computer if I dragged them kicking and screaming. :-) Jim ------------------------ Yahoo!
