I was a big hater of Dell till this month. About a year ago Dell quit
making their mobo's and PSU proprietary. They are now standard and the
best news of all. U.S. customers no longer get India when they call tech
support. Starting Oct 1 all U.S. calls are now being routed to U.S.
based tech support. And if during this transition you do get India all
you have to do is asked to be transferred to U.S. tech support. This is
what pushed me over the edge to buy a Dell notebook. I believe they are
learning to listen to their customers. And one other thing they are
starting to do, help with spyware, for a long time they had contracts
with some spyware companies that forbid them to help you remove spyware,
now they have a tech support line devoted for that purpose. I like where
they are going, they are still OEM but they have made great strides to
improve.

You are both privileged to know that I fought Dell and won. Whether or
not I should share those slings and arrows that I met at the time is
another matter.
There's always room for a Court Jester who is usually not quite the
paganini ticket.
Perhaps we could ask if anyone should take up the invitation to join
they might tell us what they have learned about HDD problems.
