I did wonder Tom, but thought it worth while mentioning. Is it anything to do
with your internet connection. The reason I ask is that my server has webmail
but I can retrieve my mails in Outlook Express. However, when I go to the
webmail page to download what my server refers to as "External account" mail,
that I cannot pick up in Outlook Express I get an error message irrespective of
whether or not I choose to send and receive manually, or allow Outlook Express
to pick up mail automatically. I get asked for my password, and when I cancel
the request I get this error message:

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected.
Account: 'Wightway. ', Server: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR [SYS/TEMP] mailbox locked by other server', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

I hope that, if nothing else it inspires you to keep looking into it.

Janet
