Let me see if I can help you with more of a clue.   Being a man who has an 
ancient map, you probably have an interest in them.  You will therefore realise 
that the scale of a map may not allow one to appreciate how close an island may 
be.  Sooo, cast your eye along the South Coast of England, and forget France.
