I have had to format my HDD and a lot of important stuff was utterly lost. Hi Ike: I'm not sure why you had to format your hard drive. But, you should know, that if you reformat your hard drive everything will be gone. There is no way to recover even if you had diskettes or a Boot Disk. If you expect them to save you another time, they won't. I don't know if many people use ASR as there are easier ways. If you were having a problem with your operating system there were a couple of ways to recover without needing to reformat. One way was to boot up in safe mode with "Command Prompt" and go into the Restore folder for a restore point that was ahead of the date of your problem. The other way was to re-install XP from the application CD in the repair mode which does not reformat the drive. If you had created a Data partition to save all your data to, Reformatting the OS partition would not have hurt your data.
