When hardware like mice fail the general first remedy is to reinstall the
drivers. If this is a branded mouse like Logitec and you have an install
disk you might try this. Run the install program first, that may take care
of it. The drivers may have been damaged. On the other hand, the mouse
itself could be damaged. Also make certain that it is plugged in firmly.
Shut down the machine, unplug then pug it in again. And boot.

Mice, expcet for special ones, are amont the simplest devices in terms of
Windows having drivers.
