I seriously doubt that XP activation has been discontinued. A machine which
already has XP installed generally doesn't require it. The setup you
described may somehow have confused the process or hidden the notices. If
you stay unactivated for the time lime you may find that versoin of XP won't
work or will give you a special warning.

Hi Jim:
I guess I am not being understood. This old XP pro is activated on
an old machine and receiving updates regularly and has had svc pack
2 installed.

Back a while I tried to change it from the old computer to my then new
EMachine. Microsoft refused to activate it on the eMachine saying that
it was an OEM version and would only ever be activated for the first PC
it was used on. End of story for a while.

Then I bought this new Toshiba and all I started out doing was to map the
steps to installing a dual boot and had no intention of keeping it on that
Toshiba, but Microsoft activated it then after checking my activation it
allowed the svc pack 2 and some upgrades since.

Now my question is......Why are they allowing activation on two different
PCs? And not just once by mistake. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it
twice and it activates and upgrades each time? Has Microsoft changed
something that we are now just becoming aware of? I'm trying to
determine if there have been any policy changes.

Emile
