First off, word processing is no real demonstration of computing speed. It is because the newer computers do have more power they get installed with many more applications, not to mention processes running in the background. Can you live with only a word processor, then do a reformat reinstall of your OS, then install only the word processor. I doubt that you will consider your computer slow, especially if you stay disconnected from the internet. I like to compare today's computers with the sixties cars with their high powered engines to which were connected so much 'stuff' that they couldn't pass up a gas station.
