Atryeu, see if your friend is running any P2P [file-sharing] Sites. Like, Kazaa. Also, you can do [as Bear offered] a system search, START-SEARCH, then type in kavsve.exe. If it is using your system it can be found. Meanwhile, we can see about system hijacking but try the above and keep us posted.

Your friend could perhaps search for the file on her system to establish where it is located which might provide a clue as to what it is or what function it performs. She could try Start->Run-> and type "services.msc" (without quotes) and click OK which will list all the running services and should include kavsve.exe and this should provide more information about what it is and where it is located by right clicking it and selecting Properties. It can also be stopped and restarted to see what happens. You could also establish whether it runs at startup or not by Start->Run and typing "msconfig" (without quotes), clicking the Startup tab to see if it is listed there and if it is you will find where it is located. You could try unchecking it to disable it from running at startup, reboot and see what happens, at reboot XP will warn you that it has been disabled and if you would like to re-enable it but you would just choose selective startup and continue without it being re-enabled. If your friend finds that some program will not run as a result of disabling kavsve.exe at startup, she could always follow the same procedure and re-check it to re-enable it again. There is also a free program called Process Patrol, which detects all running processes and provides information on them, allowing you to stop or start them. I live to far away to be able personally take a look at things so the below info is what I managed to get from her over the phone... The file 'kavsve.exe' is using up all of the system resources on the computer and, from what she made it sound like, is causing a whole lot of lag and problems with the system locking up and such. She has XP Home Edition, and when I had her bring up the End Task Manager and look at the Preformance tab, she listed the following for the file: kavsve.exe System 95-100%(CPU Usage) 21140(Mem. Usage) I have solved some problems myself and for my friends with problem files in the past by doing a search for the file name (in double quotes) through Google. Nothing came up when I entered that file name though so I wasn't sure about it. I don't use XP and have very little experience with it. I have told her to do a couple virus scans, spyware/adware scans and such until I can get back to her about it to make sure the system is clean.
