I have never heard of fdisk /mbr causing any problem. It the problem was
that the master boor record was damaged, it gets fixed. If it wasn't bad no
harm is done. If the original poster new how to find out the problem she
would not be considering just replacing the drive. Of course there's nothing
wrong with having a second hard drive.
