Hi Mick, By searching google I found a link to Dell for your buddy's PC, I would think that he should be able to find everything there he needs for his system? But I do not own a Dell so am not sure if it is that easy. Dell link below.... HYPERLINK "http://tinyurl.com/dcu3q"http://tinyurl.com/dcu3q Google results... ---- On Behalf Of Mick --- I reformatted a Dell 3000 pc for a buddy. I don't know exactly what he did but he said he wiped his hd with an on line service - killdisk.com or something. I saw that someone else mentioned that they didn't have to enter a key for the XP Home. I didn't have to either. Under Documents and Settings it says 'owner' instead of my buddies name. I just mention this so that the other person will know it's cool. My problem is this: my buddy didn't have any of his set up or driver disks. I have a Dell 4700 and a Dell XP Home set up disk. I used that. I also used the drivers disk since it said it was for Dell Dymension 3000 (which he has) to Dell Dymension 4700. Once formatted I went to display properties to change the screen resolution since it was so large. Under settings there was only the one option - 16 bit color, 600 x 800. I wasn't using his monitor but instead one that I had. He had only one disk and it was for his monitor. I put it in and it autoran but it only contained documentation. The disk said it contained drivers but I couldn't find any. I used device manager to find his monitor and then install drivers giving the path to the monitor cd. I used every directory on the cd but it never found any drivers. I then got my drivers disk and installed the graphic drivers from it for the 3000 series. I now had two options: 16 bit and 32 bit but could only increase the resolution to 1024 x 760. I figured that this was all the higher XP Home would go (I have XP Pro on my system so not familiar with Home). I gave it back and my buddy said he was able to adjust the resolution more before it was reformatted, not just the two options that he now has. I'm stumped and don't know what to do. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. As always, I love this group(s) because you guys have helped me through many a serious pickle without taking my pc into the shop :-) Respectfully, Mick .
