My computer seems to be running slow. I don't know if it's just my
expectations or it really is but I've asked around and found some remedies
and want to get some opinions.
I currently run XP home and hear that if I upgrade to Pro, it will speed
things up, however that I should not just upgrade but go to full pro. Also
that if I get a better video card, that will make it somewhat quicker still.
Opinions...advice...thanks!

I have used both Home and Pro and have seen no discernible difference. How
much RAM do you have, what is the speed of your processor, do you have many
programs auto starting at start up, do you defrag your hard disk, do you
frequently scan for spyware and viri infections, how old is your computer, do
you
clear temporary files and other crap from your computer? (now that is a
sentence). There are many things, or combinations of things, that can cause
computers to run slowly, but I don't think upgrading your version of XP will
fix
this problem.
I better video card may help a little but, I am not so sure, an old slow
system will remain that until the underlying causes are identified. Consider
the memory first then generally good practices that will help improve
performance. I knew someone that had a very old slow computer and just by
running
CrapCleaner they noticed a change in it's behaviour.
Tell us what is in your Box, and what you do by way of housekeeping to keep
it in good running condition? Some improvements cost nothing for example do
you optimise available memory through your virtual memory settings, are your
files all over the place in your hard disk, do you run lots applications and
unnecessary processes at once, do you have lots of windows open after you
have finished with them?
