I have microsoft works, but I have never used it, because I had Office  XP.  
Microsoft Works is a cheap alternative to M$ Word, but you have to buy  Office 
to obtain Word as its part of that suite.  Quite frankly M$ office  is not 
worth the money (IMHO), I would go for Open Office if I was changing, as  its 
free and is much recommended
