I have been experimenting for years to find better ways to keep my
files backed up the most convenient and effective way(s). I have found
yet another way.
It all began back in the day, whe the only way to back up files was on
floppy disks, of course the file size then was considerably smaller
but a few large could nevertheless easily fill up a disk. Then came
the Zip drives and the Super Disks with capacities in the range of 100
Megabytes. I owned several zip drives, all but one internal. The
Super Disk was late in comming but was much better since it accepted
both standarf floppy disks and the 120 Megabyte LS 120 disks.
Eventually backup options became more plentiful with CD drives on
which you could burn your onwn disks. External hard drivese, DVD
burners and even a drive that will burn double level DVDs. But one
disadvantage of all these devices is that they are either tied to one
machine or require moving a cable from one machine to another. So when
I saw at Tiger Direct a drive case that not only will accept two hard
drives but will connect to a nework so that files on the drives are
availablle to all machines on the network by way of one or more drive
letters. This case made by Netgear, is a little bit expenseive, I
guess that's because it provides space for two hard dive, I installed
two spare 120 G. drives. And of course the box also provides network
hardware. Pretty neat.
