Hi again Debbie: Most people do what is comfortable for themselves. Control Panel>Power Options Should allow you to change any settings to do with Standby, Hibernation and powering off. Some people feel that "Rebooting means powering off completely even to the extent of pulling the power cord, waiting a few seconds and then powering back on. Standby and Hibernation do NOT completely shut off the PC. If your Laptop is running on the battery, it will become discharged. I have always shut down by momentarily pressing the On/Off button without any problems ever. There is a free program called "Brutus Shut Down" that lets you shut down, reboot, and logoff by clicking on Icons you can place in the Quicklaunch. You can also find the same icons in Windows and placing the icons anywhere convenient. Very convenient if you hand is on the Mouse. If your PC freezes and won't shut down, you can depress the On/Off button for several seconds and the PC will be forced off. When you try to again turn on, you will probably get safe mode and an option to "Boot Normally" Which again causes no problem.
