Hi John,
Have you tried to install the DVD-R as the master in place of the CD-R? The
computer is reading everyting in the CD-R OK, so by replaceing this drive
with the DVD-R, jumper set to master, the drive should be able to read all
kinds of media. If it cannot read anything then you know for sure that the
DVD-R drive is faulty and should be exchanged by the seller for a new one.
Be aware however that the drive will read all DVD's as there are both DVD+R
and DVD-R format discs in circulation.
