Hi
I have also tried free "Good Sync" works fine and easy to do. And I use
Free Microsoft "Synctoy" also good. If they all work the same I prefer
Synctoy because it lets you make a number of "Pairs" so that for each sync
you
need to do, you can select the pair you want without changing the GUI. You
might habitually synchronize different drives, or flash or different folders,
and the paths are set up in pairs.

In any case, Synchronizing data is probably the easiest way to make copies
of your data. Data never needs to be backed up with a "Backup" program.
Synchronizing keeps your files in their natural form, not in the proprietary
form of backup
programs. You can use your files as needed without restoring.

There is really not much reason to not keep all your data in Sub-folders
under "My Documents" because you only need to
Sync one folder and it keeps the paths simple. Most of these tools have
Browse buttons so you can browse easily to the "source and to the
"destination" and click them into the GUI.

Just another idea..........Because I often sync between different devices,
to make sure files are not combined because of duplicate names with different
material. I give my completed files a serial number so every files will in
effect have a different name. The easiest way is just put in the date ie.
"myfile120707". This helps too in searches cause you can search by date
easily.

I have about 15GBs of data and I have about 15GBs of free uninstalled
programs that I Synchronize. After each Sync I check the volume and have
always
com up with the same number of folders and files on both sides. An initial
sync from a full drive to an empty drive may take time, but once your pairs
are synchronized the next Sync will be much faster.

Having said all that.........With synchronization, you are placing all your
data volume in the hands of one program. As with any backup program it can
fail. That could be a disaster. Still the most secure way is to "Save" all
your work individually upon completion to a secure media. There are programs
you can install that will automatically place a copy to a Disk or external
drive as it is completed, but, it is still a program.
