Not sure why you get the missing file (dotnetinstaller.exe) error from Norton, but here's a Norton webpage that claims it is ok to ignore the message: http://service1.symantec.com/support/nsw.nsf/docid/2002112512224107
It mentions another missing file - "mscoree.dll" - which would probably be associated with your HP Deskjet printer? If you don't have an HP printer, or if your printer is working ok, you can ignore this error too. Here's a Microsoft site that tells how to get rid of the error by installing Microsoft's .net framework. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316091 The .net framework just allows certain programs to run which are based on Microsoft's Visual Basic programming script. You don't need to install it if you don't want to. Up to you. I don't get why Norton is giving these errors? It appears that some part of Norton is trying to run a .net program on your machine which I think is pretty weird for a virus scanner to do. I'd have to agree with some others who think Norton is not the best choice for virus protection - but since you've already got it and paid for it you might as well stick with it. IMHO, Norton is much too complex and tends to take over your machine.... Which brings me to the fact that your pc isn't running so well. There are many things that could be causing this (Norton is a prime suspect). But the first thing I would do is check how many background programs you have running: For XP go to Start, Run and type Msconfig. Click the Startup tab. Each program with a check next to it is running in the background and potentially slowing down, or mucking up, your performance. You want to keep these to a minimum (I have "none" running on my machines - but that's a bit extreme). Here's a site to look up each item. It will tell you what the program does, and if it "needs" to be running all the time: http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php Uncheck any apps that you don't need. You'll probably want to keep the ones associated with your Anti-Virus (Norton) checked of course. After unchecking, reboot (you'll see a window saying you've made changes - just click the "do not show this anymore" box. That's how to start diagnosing your poor performance. Re-post if that doesn't help or you have more questions.
