Linda,

Try programs > my computer

Highlight C/local drive

Go to file menu bar and click on properties.

Under tools tab, first option is scan. Hit enter and be sure you check the box
to find and correct all errors and not for the option to check for bad clusters
in/on the drive.
Hit enter, you'll get an error saying not able to be done. It will ask if you
want to do this upon your next restart/reboot, click on yes.

Do a cold or total shutdown/restart. Let the computer remain off for about a
minute or two before you restart the pc.

The scan should begin and the operating system will boot only after the scan is
completed.

Good luck,

Rick

  Hi Rick,

I installed Windows XP Backup by inserting the disk , perform additional
task , browse the cd, double clicked on the value add folder, then Msft and
  then Ntbackup-

Installed great- one problem my system took almost all day to get it removed
and get my system back up running.-

Even Norton GO-Back would not respond as it went up to 50% then aborted.

Could this now be because after finally getting Windows XP Version 5.01.260
Service Pack 3 downloaded and installed on my system- what I have on my
original disk my system does not like anymore?

Or is my computer just being finicky?

Can the backup file be found some place else?

  Linda

  Try these to backup...

  1. programs > accessories > system tools > backup

  or

  start > my computer
highlight c/local drive and go to file menu and click on properties.
go to tools tab and down to backup

  Linda,

  >Yeah! I have only had winxp for a couple of years now- I can still not
find out how to Back-up my system with XP.

I don't know of any way to back up a computer using only the Windows OS.
I have used Norton Ghost and other programs that create a full copy of
the C: partition. The destination can be another partition on the same
drive or an external hard drive. Even a DVD-R or RW. or a dual layer
disk. Of course the disk has to have enough empty space to handle the
whole C: partition plus some extra space.
