Hi:
Do  you have an XP installation CD?  If you do,  try doing  an "In place 
Windows reinstallation"  otherwise known as a repair  reinstallation.  This 
will 
not reformat the drive or hurt your data and  programs..  Otherwise you might 
try doing a Windows Restore back to a  calendar  date from before you first had 
the problem. Bye
