In internet explorer in the tools drop down, under internet options, on the security tab, push the internet zone button, under that there will be a button for custom level. In the box that comes up, several entries down there is an area for active-x controls. This has a setting for automatic prompt for active-x controls. If this is enabled you will get messages on nearly every page that opens. Definately disable.
NOTE THIS: the reason this and other settings were put there was because there have been several very destructive attacks that came in the form of active-x controls. I recently recovered from one such attack. This has not stopped me from using the hundred or so instances of pages calling active-x controls daily, and has not stopped me from downloading the four or so active-x's that are requested every month. I have only been burned once doing it this way. Happy surfing and if you have an unlikely problem with an evil active-x it is most likely that someone here has already had that problem and will be happy to help you solve it without losing your stuff.
