Hey all!
I have an older Compaq Armada 1750 that was having desktop issues. To
solve this, I upgraded from ME (ugh) to XP. This solved the screen
issues easily, and I shut down for the night.

That's when the computer gremlins must've attacked.
It refused to go any further than the Compaq 'greeting' screen.

My wife tried to get it going the next day, and it did actually work!
...For half an hour. It let her use the internet for a bit, but then
lost its signal. While she was trying to fix that, it froze, so she
restarted it- and it refuses to come back on any further than the
Compaq greeting once more, but the start up 'welcome beep' is no
longer there.

There had been a warning screen up last week that it was too hot and
close to overheating, while it was still working properly on ME. It
was shut down and left alone for about 3 days. It was when we tried to
use it after this resting period that the trouble started.

So... do we now have a Compaq Paperweight? Or is there an easy (or at
least ANY) solution to our anti-social computer?
