Who told you why your Gateway crashed? Sounds bogus to me. In any case  
you could recover it if you had rescue disks. Now a hardware crash or  
a power supply death would stop a computer from working any longer but  
those are fixable things. Well the hard drive would be. The power  
supply might be hard to fix since it would be difficult to find one  
that would fit where the old one was. Now I would probably just sit  
the new PS on the desk next to the 'puter, I don't mind ugly. We  
belong together. :-)
