I don't often use my headset on my computers, but I do sometimes think  
about building a switch. What you could build is a simple splitter.  
You would need a male 1/8th" connector to plug into the speaker jack.  
Next you need two female 1/8" connectors. All you need to do is solder  
wires between equivalent terminals. Of course you need to be able to  
solder nine connections. I'm not certain of the earphone impedance, I  
do think that speakers are low impedance [Z]. If the earphones are  
plugged in at the same time as the speaker then the volume will be  
slightly lower since there will be an impedance mismatch. There is the  
additional issue that the speaker jacks are often in the back end of  
the computer. If you need to switch often you may need to use longer  
wires so the plugs and jack can be near the front of the computer for  
easy access.
