Cindi,

Maybe the speed increase came from removing the "spydoctor" you
mentioned. Most spyware protection programs behave just like antivirus
software in that they have to examine everything flowing through your
network connection to ensure you are protected. This process slows all
computers down.

The probable cause of the error you were getting was most likely the
"spydoctor" program removing the file(s) required by the Compaq program.
Some spyware and virus infections were known to use the Compaq program
in their infestation process, so the "spydoctor" program may have simply
removed a piece of the Compaq program with out any consideration for the
effect it would have. This has been a known problem for sometime and
uninstalling or disabling the Compaq "connections" program was the
recommended solution.

Glad you have got things "back up to speed". I don't know which
antivirus or antispyware programs you are using now, but definitely use
them to protect yourself. From my experience a good, free combination
is AVG for an antivirus and Windows Defender for anti-spyware. Of
course, many of the commercial products do a good job also, but free is
free!

Dale
