I'm thinking this is probably a Vista permissions problem.  Have you 
tried importing the files in Safe Mode on the laptop?

Just in case the files 'might' be corrupted for some reason you could 
try running the Inbox Repair Tool as mentioned here:
http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/outlook/repair.html  (it's free and 
included with Outlook).
