Thanks... I backed up all of his personal files and rebooted to 
attempt the Sony system recovery and was greeted with the "missing 
operating system" error message. I am attempting a full restore to 
see if it will rewrite the MBR, if not, I would imagine that it's a 
drive error and will have to replace it.
 
I didn't have the confidence in the add/remove process since the 
system restore (Windows) didn't eliminate the problem.
 
It appears that's it's taking the full restore while it didn't 
the "C" drive only option. I guess I'll just watch and see what 
happens.
