Do you get an error when trying to delete an email? What does it say? One thing to try is to "compact" the folders: I'm not sure what version of OE you have, but try going to the Tools menu, Options, Maintenance, Clean UP, and look for a "compact folders" option.
If that doesn't help you might have a corrupt message in the folder that you can't delete from. You might have to create a new folder, move all the messages into it to back them up, then log out of OE and delete the corrupt folder using Windows Explorer.
