From what I understand, you are well within the range of either an N or G type router. Even G routers should be effective to 100ft. N routers extend that range to maybe 600 or 700 feet. But since you're only 50 ft away you shouldn't have any range problems at all (unless you've got thick concrete or steel walls - or a lot of other devices (like cordless phones) interfering with your signal. So, yeah your range will improve - but it shouldn't make any difference at 50 feet. But the N protocol's firmware makes it a lot more stable - so if you've had drop-outs or whatever, the N router should help stabilize them.
I "think" you might see a little bit of a speed increase. Your network will only work at G speeds (up to about 56Mbs), but the N router will have dual channels (most do - if they have 2 antennas) and will have less need to re-send damaged data. But as far as using the internet you won't see any change - your 11Mbs is way fast enough for that. But for transferring files to other PC's on your network you might see some minor improvement in speed.
