Since you checked that there's power coming from the adapter you know
the prob is somewhere in the laptop. The battery wouldn't make any
difference - it'll run fine even without a battery (but after 5 or 6
years I'd be surprised if the original battery still worked at all).
If the prob is in the laptop it could be motherboard, could be the DC
power connector, could be IC of the power on module, it could be a LOTTA
different things that would cost money and would only be hit/miss in
troubleshooting. Have you checked the prices of new, lower end,
laptops? You can get one that would be fine for business and websurfing
for $350 or $400. And even though it's low end, it'll perform far
better than a 5 year old computer.

I dunno what a shop will charge to give you a repair estimate - but an
actual repair will prob not be worth it.
I'm not familiar with Fujitsus, but you can almost surely attach your
old hard drive to an inexpensive external USB drive enclosure if you
want to try getting your old data from it. (I'm assuming when you said
it "does nothing" that there is no sound whatsoever? Because if it is
totally dead of any fan, etc. noise, the hard drive is likely still good.)

I would try reseating the RAM module(s) - under a cover on the back. If
you've got 2 modules, remove one at a time and try booting. Also try
jiggling where the adapter plugs into the body (but I'm sure you've
tried that).

Good luck,
Donk
