The simplest thing to try would be do a System Restore to a date previous to when the problem started. Go to Start and type System Restore in the search window. Just follow the instructions and pick a date prior to the problem. You won't lose any personal data. System Restore replaces the system files with versions from the date you select.
If that doesn't fix it you might try correcting a registry entry.
