actually if you can get a long enough usb cable and usb wireless card you can use the dish as a reflector, i have done it in the past.

You can buy external antennae for wireless cards that do help bring in more networks - but the stated maximum range for Wireless N is about 820 feet. If you can find someone within that range and offer to maybe compensate them somehow if they'd let you share their connection you might be good. >From what I've read (I've been trying to extend my range throughout my neighborhood too) you can't use a TV or Satellite Dish type antenna for wifi - they're not attuned to the same frequency (or whatever). There was a guy and his son in rural Virginia not too far from me, who were trying to start a business of bringing wireless broadband to them and their rural neighbors. They did it by installing a series of routers, set up as repeaters, in homes that were less than 820 feet apart. Apparently most routers have a "repeater" mode that lets it communicate with another router, which communicates with another router, etc. etc. etc. until you are in range of your own router. I guess you've thought about satellite ISP's? But I think you said you do online gaming and there's serious upload lag with satellite. I would keep bugging the ISP to let you at least "try" their DSL. Beg them. Promise them you won't complain if the speed isn't perfect - as long as it's better than dial up.
