Yep, the Desktop is a folder. And there can't be more than 1 item in it with the exact same name. So you've got some kind of glitch going there. Go to Start, and type "Desktop" into the search box. (You didn't mention what version of Windows?) This will open the Desktop folder. See if your items are listed there and try to delete them. What are the items? Are they Folders, or shortcuts, or actual files?
