Open Windows Live Mail and try this fix:
Click the no-name icon in the top left-hand corner of the window and 
select Options > Mail. On the /Spelling/ tab, make sure you have /Check 
my spelling as I type /selected. It may be best to deselect /Always 
check spelling before sending /- the two settings have had a tendency to 
conflict with each other.
