You can go to http://http://maps.google.com/ and get an aerial satellite view of anywhere - zoomable to a few hundred feet. It defaults to a north view, so you might be able to estimate S, E, and West. If you download Google Earth (free download) you can get the same zoom able view, plus it will have a fully functional compass to use. Maybe that'll work for you.
