I really like Thunderbird. Unfortunately I am about to leave it, except for a
comment Donk made earlier (message #42015) about it not handling large amounts
of mail well.

I pull in 6 gmail accounts, but only have trouble with the main one. I compact
folders often. Three of those accounts have incoming emails that I need to keep
and search. I store many emails on my main account as well. Checking with
windows explorer, my mail account uses just over a gig of space, and the entire
Thunderbird Mail folder for the profile is 6.87 gig.

Does this fall under "too much email"? Could that be where my problems are
coming from? I read a comparison between Opera and Thunderbird; one person said
he had 4 gigs and another poster basically said that was a lot.

For awhile I used Opera's email; don't remember why I stopped. If I can rescue
Thunderbird, I'd like to keep it.

Thanks,
Theresa

Here are some details about what I'm dealing with.

Tbird has served me well - until the update earlier this year. Posted about
that already; the advice from David (my computer man) was to find a version 8
or 10 file and use it. I did so.

Most of the filters now point back to the right folders. Still having problems
with "can't find" folder so-and-so and multiple unchecked filters where Tbird's
lost the folder. I find the filter; it's unchecked. Open the filter, and it's
pointing to nothing. I have to show it again what folder to move to.

After I moved some folders around, Tbird updated some filters and not others.

I thought I could live with all this, but this morning has been really bad. The
"help me" sound is really annoying, and hearing it repeatedly, plus getting the
error message, is like nails on a chalkboard. Tbird is even losing filter
pointers to and "can't find" folders that have never been moved since I first
set the program up.

A few days ago, Tbird lost all my job/career emails. I am job hunting, so those
were necessary. I am sick of this. I have spent literally days and weeks trying
to repair the damage that update caused.
