It would help to know if it is a laptop or a desktop? In case you haven't tried this... hold the power button in for at least 5 or 10 seconds to see if it comes on.
If it's a laptop try starting it with the battery taken out, but the adapter plugged into the wall. Also, try gently wiggling the power cord where it plugs into the back of the laptop. It's very common for laptops to develop a short there that can maybe be cheaply repaired or worked around. If it's a desktop there are some troubleshooting steps you can take - the first being to be sure all the cables are securely plugged into the back of the tower. Next would be to open the case and be sure all the cables are securely attached to the devices and motherboard, and all the cards (if any) are securely seated (but you've gotta be a little tech savvy to do that).
