No, in Google Chrome I've looked in Settings and Tools and there isn't any way to turn off auto-updating . However, in your Windows Administrative Tools Services you should find "Google Software Updating" and/or "Google Update Service" and you could if you want Disable that. Why would you want to though?... Why would you want to be anywhere on the web with a browser which is not up-to-date-secure?
Chrome doesn't tell me when it's updating..... so how do you know for sure your crashes/reboots are related to Chrome auto-updating?.... Are you certain all your installed RAM is good/compatible... (have you just recently upgraded/increased installed ram?).. I experienced random reboots, also freeze/lock ups, when I went from 3 gb installed ram to 4 (32 bit XP profl). All the ram checked out in memory testing, however either the sticks themselves were not compatible, or 32 bit XP couldn't manage the installed ram above 3gb's I suggest something else is the issue causing the crashes/reboots. mike >>> -In A-1-Computer_Tech@yahoogroups.com, <a-1-computer_tech@yahoogroups.com> >>> wrote: I have a Windows XP computer, and loaded Google Chrome because of the limited memory. I'm learning patience :). Unfortunately, when Chrome updates, it usually crashes and reboots. Plus Windows often complains of too low virtual memory. Is there some way to stop GC from updating? I can't remember if there is, and I have checked the program without results. Thanks, Theresa <<<
