WHY IS THE STORM COMING? This storm is coming because the Church (the
Body of Christ) is no longer the backbone of this nation. From our
inception, the Christian faith has been the plumb line of decisions
made at all levels of life. The Christian founding of this nation is
what makes it different from every other nation, other than perhaps
Israel. Other nations may have become Christian in their focus, but
none were initially formed with Christianity as the core of its DNA.

Obviously the people are the church and the church is the
people. Or perhaps therein lay the problem? Has the axiom “Don’t go
to church, be the church”, lost it meaning, and if so, why? Could it
be that the body of Christianity has waxed and waned between going to
church, and being the church, since the early days when Christian
cohesion was more a demand and less a personal motivation? We
certainly have the need for true Christian cohesion, but do we have
the personal motivation? Motivation requires discipline, and
discipline is most certainly lacking in a large portion of western
society. All one needs do is look around them to recognize this
reality.
When you go into a Jewish Synagogue to partake in prayers to God,
there are many themes that flow through the service. One of those
themes is
Cohesion. In prayer, the Jewish community is ever reminded they left
Egypt as a group, shared a common experience as a group, and
understand the fruition of Gods promise will be fulfilled by getting
there together. Most certainly a marvelous discipline. “Muslims
observe five formal prayers each day. The timings of these prayers are
spaced fairly evenly throughout the day, so that one is constantly
reminded of God and given opportunities to seek His guidance and
forgiveness.” Most certainly a marvelous discipline.
Perhaps because I am so close, and Christianity is so important
to me, I do not see the cohesion or the discipline in western
society. Certainly some churches are packed wall to wall on Sunday
morning, but what can be said of that? Seemingly, shining a seat with
your bottom has softened our collective backbones instead of making
them stronger. Does it not seem strange that there are so many
different ways to worship God, so many different places to go,
doctrines to observe, but only one heaven?
