Boinc objective - as I understand it - is to facilitate tight
coordination among large groups of computing nodes across longer
periods of time.
For computing the A5/1 rainbow tables, we need a relatively small
number of nodes and virtually no coordination. For the current
implementation, we chose anonymity over Boinc's features.
Besides, we don't really want to compete with computations for medical
research (while we might very well want to draw resources from that
ridiculous alien search).
Having said that: I would very much welcome and support a port to
Boinc as long as anonymous use over TOR is encouraged. Our framework
is designed to be very generic, so A5/1 will not be the last target
cipher. Let us know where we can help.
Cheers,
-Karsten
