Well it would be if you could rely on it. I missed one on Morrison's Jig.
The full tally was D, Em (with accidental c#s), Edor, Bm and G (with
accidental c#s). Surely the availability of K:^f^c (or K:^f with accidental
c#s) would get rid of some of the sillier things while leaving Edor for those
who wanted it. Some of the tunes might carry less information but at least
they wouldn't carry misinformation. I think the Em (with accidental c#s)
person would stick to their guns. It may not be to your taste but it is
widely used and understood.
The trouble with including the accidentals at the beginning of the tune is
that they are not always constant throughout (definitely not in melodic
minor). Try this one (Northern England 18c) which would have to have
accidental F naturals if it used your K:G^f_b_e key signature.

I'm getting a bit confused about who the poor misguided folks who need to be
educated about music are. Is it "those with too much classical education" or
"those less musically literate than we all are here."? Is there a "just
right" amount of knowledge or is some knowledge good and some bad? I intend
to carry on learning more about all sorts of music as long as I live.
