I was thinking you were going to parse ABC notes without accidentals
if someone said they wanted cautionary accidentals. I now see that
you only want to allow the option of not printing cautionary
accidentals that the editor entered. I agree that option should be
there somehow.

They are, for transcriptions where the editor wants a distinction
between two kinds of accidentals.

Well, that's exactly what John Henckel was proposing.

So do singers and recorder players. Lots of bass lines, for instance,
are written with an alternate note for a baritone who is singing a
bass line but doesn't have the real bass range the composer would like
to write for.

I agree that now that we've accepted that ABC should be able to
provide directions to both playing programs and printing programs, we
might need to think very hard about a lot of situations where the
translation between the tadpoles and the MIDI isn't exactly what your
second grade piano teacher taught you. Is that a problem?
