I wish I could get out of this but people will keep saying things I have to
respond to.

On the whole John Chambers' latest posting seems to have restated the case
I've been trying to make. Thanks John.

Just a couple of points -

>And what's this about votes? Have we had votes?

You'd better ask Phil Taylor. A while ago he said that developments were
decided by democratic vote amongst the developers. Has it ever happened?

>In any case, I've never seen a J: line.

and you probably won't see many more since Bruce's programme, excellent
though it may be, is unlikely to be a major player and J: cant be used for
anytghing else now.

And from Wil Macaulay -

>Just don't take away my K:tonic mode from me - I need it.

Wouldn't dream of it but can I have my K:sharps/flats as well please?

>> >If you are using abc as an output format, you are well advised

>Or don't, see if I care. But if you want the abc to be widely usable it
>would be sensible.

The point I was making was that several developers most definitely do not
agree with that advice.

>You are impugning the motives and good judgement
>of people who are trying to solve some pretty difficult problems,

No I'm not. I'm responding to the stated policy of a number of developers
that they will do whatever they like regardless of the standard and that if
the general users don't like it they can do the other thing.

> and making yourself generally unpleasant.

I've been on the receiving end of a lot more than I've given out. I have
sincerely tried to present a case I believe in and met with considerable
hostility and some personal abuse often for things I hadn't even said. I may
have snapped back occasionally when seriously attacked but have done my best
not to get personal. For real unpleasantness, take a look at some of the
comments on classically trained musicians that have appeared here and being a
Windows user obviously makes you a second class citizen. Even Chris Walshaw
has come under attack. If you want respect, learn to show some.
