Oh, I use BBEdit too, but I wasn't aware of that feature since it's
hidden in the preferences settings, rather than in the save dialogue as
in SaintEdit.

That's certainly something that'll come useful sometimes, but such
manual editing of single files doesn't really solve the problem here.
The bullet mark might not always be option-8, btw. It depends on the
keyoard layout. It's option-shift-q in Danish, option-q in other
Scandinavian, option-� in German etc.

Absolutely right. This is definitely something that the file transfer
software ought to take care of.

That's right too. *Most* of them handle these things pretty well these
days. THe problem is those few who don't.

Yep, that might have been a mistake in the first place. But I guess it's
to late to do anything about it by now.

Since you can't rely on the transfer agents doing their job: definitely
yes. Which applications have problems with this?
