Some programs (for instance I know that Muse does because I wrote it)
support this. I don't know about others. I can't remember if violas need
tenor clef or alto clef (tenor I think).
In Muse you could import the ABC and then change the clef. (e.g. Mark the
section to be changed and then select Change clef from the Edit menu).
There was talk of supporting syntax something like
K:G clef=tenor
(and indeed Muse will allow that) but there was then much argument without
really reaching consensus. Some wanted it to be part of the V: command
instead and so on. Maybe if you shout a bit louder and bang our heads
together...

Subject: [abcusers] Delurking to ask about alto clef

Hello, all.

I have been using abc, mostly with abc2win, for a couple of years now
with no problems, but now the group that I play with has added a viola
player. I'd like to print off our music for her in a format that she can
sight-read easily but haven't found a way to coax an alto "viola" clef
out of abc. If it was in the archives to this list, I missed it.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated; our viola player is a great
kid who plays well with fiddlers and whistlers.

Thanks,
Adrienne
