In view of this popularly of this interpretation, I'm willing to accept a patch to implement this behaviour. It would also be nice to find a written standard to support the interpreation, since the only definition I can find says nothing about ties and so implies that the accidental is necessary. Please observe that abc2midi is open source so that you can fix things yourself if need be. I am unlikely to get round to trying to change this myself for a while, though I have now documented it.
