"(3" isn't a parenthesis, it's a single symbol. Just learn to read it that way. And a triplet sign in ABC should not generate anything that looks like a slur sign in the staff notation unless the notes are marked that way. Most printed notation represents unslurred triplets by a slanted straight line with little vertical hooks at the ends and a 3 in the middle (also for a triplet where the slurs don't coincide with the rhythmic unit); BarFly uses a simpler and uglier notation, a 3 with horizontal dashes on each side, but at least it's logically correct. There are situations where you really do want to make the distinction between tieing and slurring on to the first note of a triplet, and your suggested change would preclude that. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jack Campin * 11 Third Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4PU, Scotland tel 0131 660 4760 * fax 0870 055 4975 * http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/ food intolerance data & recipes, freeware Mac logic fonts, and Scottish music To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
