You're getting away from the original intent of abc and one that most of the musicians in this group, I think, still want to retain -- i.e., that the abc transcription be HUMAN-readable. Humans don't require explicit !break! commands if there is a newline. I wouldn't want to see a reversal in such a basic assumption in the standard.
