Federated SIP would be interesting if you could allow roaming users to make use of their softphones to issue and receive calls when they roams to visiting institutions. Moreover, you could provide some kind of SSO token to avoid re-registering and re-autentications. SIP proxies could solve this issue directly by redirections but sometimes firewalls filter those calls. Maybe the VoIP operators in such organizations could clarify this scenario.
