commit -- getopt on Unix side

I've commited some getopt_long work on the Unix front end
and I'm working to move it out to XP-land, but it's kinda
tough considering how each platform has to start program
execution right about there in the code.  

Thanks to Ming-I Hsieh for the patch contribution and the
motivation to get the getopt stuff in there.
